Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) was incorporated on June 14, 1978 through a Joint Venture Agreement signed between Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), Shell and Mitsubishi Corporation. The establishment was Malaysia’s first Liquefied Natural Gas project.
Its first LNG plant was completed and commenced operations in 1983 and that very same year, MLNG’s first LNG cargo was delivered to the Sodegaura Terminal in Japan on January 29.
As demand for LNG steadily increased over the years, two more joint ventures were formed on June 1, 1992 and November 8, 1995 which led to the incorporation of MLNG Dua Sdn Bhd and MLNG Tiga Sdn Bhd respectively. Later, on January 13, 2012, PETRONAS LNG 9 Sdn Bhd was incorporated to add a ninth production module to the PETRONAS LNG Complex.
MLNG’s business activities include the acquisition of Natural Gas from its offshore partners, the liquefaction of natural gas, and finally the delivery of product to its customers.
Today, MLNG remains focused on producing LNG safely with its nine LNG production modules/trains on the 276-hectare PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. With a workforce of 1,500 people, MLNG is fully committed to deliver its product to its clients in Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and other countries.
